Greece leads the way in issuing "golden visas" in 2023

This growth continued even after an increase in the minimum amount of investment required to obtain a visa. In the next four months, 2,866 applications were submitted, which is 65% more than in the same period in 2022, highlighting the strong factors driving demand for the Greek "golden visa".

The Greek authorities have also stepped up efforts to reduce the waiting lists of applications. Despite the high volume of applications, the number of pending applications decreased in November, although the approval of applications from the main applicants is still delayed.
This year, Chinese citizens became the most active group of investors, followed by Turks, Lebanese, Iranians, Americans and Egyptians. There is also a decrease in the number of golden visas issued to Russian citizens due to the suspension of the issuance of new visas for Russians.
In total, the Chinese account for 58% of the nearly 15,000 main applicants for Greek golden visas, which indicates a significant interest of this group of investors in Greece. While the share of Turks is 7%, Russians and Lebanese are 5% each, and Iranians and Egyptians are 3% each.
These data highlight the growing interest in Greek real estate investments and the country's popularity among international investors looking for ways to legalize their stay in Europe through investment programs.
