On November 22, 2022, the Parliament of Portugal voted against the abolition of the golden visas, despite the fact that Prime Minister António Costa had previously recognized the possibility of canceling the corresponding program.
During a marathon of proposals to amend the State Budget for 2023, the Communist Party PCP proposed to abolish the Golden Visa program, which makes it easier for foreign investors investing in the real estate market in Portugal.
In early November, the Prime Minister of Portugal admitted that this program could be curtailed, but now at the plenary meeting he rejected the proposal of the Communists.
The PS, PSD and Chega parties voted against. The liberal initiative abstained, all other parties voted in favor.
