The historical lock in Baroque style is located in Rigersburg in Austria on border with the Czech Republic. The lock is bright sample of the Austrian baroque. Near the lock medieval fortress is located. The lock with picturesque facade reminds the palace from romantic fairy tales. It has the square form with massive dome towers on corners. According to documentary evidences, on site the lock there was fortress since 1212.
Siegmund von Hardegg in 1568 has got this half-ruined fortress from the previous owners, previously construction has suffered after the fire. The graph wanted to reconstruct ruins to the family residence. Successors of the graph have sold Rigersburg because of debts. Johann von Kewenchueller-Mettsch – ober-hofmayster of the yard of Maria II Theresa was engaged in reconstruction of the palace. The architect Franz Anton Pilgram, the pupil Hildebrandta, in 1735 has built the baroque palace for the graph. The castle chapel in northern wing was consecrated in 1755. Since 1945 the whole decade the lock gradually collapsed.
By 1993 the lock was partially repaired. Today's Rigersburg is scheduled monument. In it the museum of the Austrian nobility of era of baroque is open, exhibitions are held, the historical film is shot. In the lock banquet rooms, receiving, luxurious living rooms with fireplaces, cafe bar – space ideal for holding exclusive weddings and festive events in the atmosphere of the Renaissance are located. Unique feature of the residence is own chapel. Interiors are decorated with works of art, period furniture is kept, and walls decorate pictures of great artists. The large well-kept garden allows to have a rest in shadow of trees and to have supper in the fresh air in environment of the picturesque nature.
